Mission & Outreach

Our Church's Wider Mission

As a church that is active in the world, we support the mission of the United Church of Christ across the country and around the globe. Our annual gift to our church's wider mission allows our congregation to be part of the Christian effort to offer disaster relief, to advocate for social and racial justice, to strive toward gender equality, to speak out for the vulnerable, and to serve humanity with Christ's love and passion.

  • Feeding Our Children Together

Every school year, food-insecure children in the Plymouth Head Start Program and Preschool receive weekend grocery bags provided by Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ and other faith communities in the Plymouth area.

This is an ongoing, community-wide effort to fight weekend hunger among children.

  • Meals for Many

Our Fellowship Hall hosts Plymouth Area Community Closet's Meals for Many. This program, as well as a holiday food baskets program and "Keep the Heat On,” started as an ecumenical outreach by our church.

Meals for Many offers nutritious dinners and welcoming hospitality to individuals and families in need year-round. Every Thursday at 5 p.m., supper is served in the Fellowship Hall downstairs. All are welcome.

  • Voices Against Violence

As a Just Peace congregation, Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ supports the mission of Voices Against Violence. Together, we strive to break the cycle of domestic abuse, sexual violence, human trafficking and bullying in Plymouth and surrounding areas. Donations to support Voices Against Violence are collected throughout the year.

The Hope Fund & Food Pantry

Members and friends of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ are committed to standing in solidarity with those in our church and wider community who are facing difficult and challenging times in their lives.

The Hope Fund provides short-term financial relief to people who may need to keep their heat on in the winter, who cannot afford medication for chronic conditions or who may need a one-time assistance with their electrical bill.

Requests for aid are handled on a case-by-case basis. Additional documentation may be required for financial aid to be provided. For more information, call the church office at (603) 536-2626, Tuesday-Friday between 9:30 a.m.-1:45 p.m.

We are a church that is determined to end hunger in our community. The Food Pantry offers canned goods to families and individuals who may be experiencing temporary or emergency food shortages. There is a limited amount of canned food on-site that is free of charge and available to local residents. Please contact our church office for additional information.

  • Ukama Partnership

Several years ago, the New Hampshire Conference of the United Church of Christ began to introduce local congregations to individual churches in Zimbabwe. This was not about the mission of sending aid, but a people-to-people effort to form what is called the Shona word "Ukama" or friendship. These "sister churches" now have formed strong bonds with regular visits occurring when the political realities allow.

Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ has been a partner to the Masvingo United Church of Zimbabwe for more than a decade.

  • Habitat for Humanity

Pemi-Valley Habitat for Humanity works in the local area of 14 towns in partnership with people in need to build simple decent housing.

Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ has supported the work of Habitat for Humanity since 1974 when Millard Fuller was invited to come and talk about his idea of building houses with people in need of a simple decent place to live. The congregation decided to contribute funds for the first house which was to be built in Bokotola in what was then called Zaire. In 1986, our church and community members founded the local Habitat affiliate.

  • PSU Campus Ministry

Caring Campus Coalition at Plymouth State University creates an intentional community of kindness and purpose by making personal connections, exploring the complexities of the human spirit, and supporting all in their pursuit of authentic self.

  • International Institute of New England

We have partnered with the International Institute of New England to welcome refugees to New Hampshire.

As a community of faith that is committed to making the world more just and peaceful, we share IINE's mission to create a more diverse and inclusive society where refugees are given the opportunity to flourish and find a home in our state and country.
