Statement of Faith

We believe in you, O God, eternal Spirit,
God of our Savior Jesus Christ and our God, and to your deeds we testify:

You call the worlds into being, create persons in your own image
and set before each one the ways of life and death.
You seek in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin.
You judge people and nations by your righteous will declared
      through prophets and apostles.
In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Savior,
you have come to us and shared our common lot, conquering
sin and death and reconciling the world to yourself.
You bestow upon us your Holy Spirit, creating and renewing the
church of Jesus Christ, binding in covenant faithful people
of all ages, tongues and races.
You call us into your church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship, to be your servants in the service of others, to proclaim the gospel to all the world and resist the powers of evil, to share in Christ's baptism and eat at his table, to join him in his passion and victory. You promise to all who trust you forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace, courage in the struggle for justice and peace, your presence in trial and rejoicing, and eternal life in your realm which has no end.

Blessing and honor, glory and power be unto you.  Amen.

See how our Statement of Faith has changed
Articles of Faith, circa 1764

We believe that there is one but one God, who is the Creator, Preserver
and governor of all being and things; and who possesses every natural
    and moral perfection.

That God exists in three persons, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and
that these three are one in the same essence, and equal in every Divine perfection.

That the holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired, and is a perfect
    rule of faith and practice.

That God has foreordained whatsoever comes to pass:  and that in such
a way, as not to infringe at all upon the freedom of the creature.

That God created Adam perfectly holy and made him the representative of
    all his posterity.

That by Adam's fall, all his posterity are born wholly depraved; and are
    justly liable to eternal punishment.

That the Lord Jesus Christ, who is both God and man, had, by his death,
made an atonement for the sins of the world.

That God hath proposed to apply the atonement to those only who were predestined to be holy and to be heirs of eternal glory.

That all are invited to come to Christ and receive Salvation freely: that
nothing but their own wicked opposition of heart can debase them from
    this glorious offer.

    That the foundation of the elects acceptance with God is Jesus Christ;
in whom they became interested by faith alone.

That to exercise gracious affections, a Sinner must be (renewed) by the
power and grace of the Holy Spirit.

That God has covenanted to bring all the chosen to his heavenly kingdom.
At the same time, none may expect to arrive there, but those who persevere
to the end in an holy life.

That the Sabbath is of Divine origins, that it never was abrogated, and that
we are bound to regard it as holy time.

    That Christ has a visible church in the world, composed of visible saints;
and that a credible profession of holy love is (required) for admission.

That public worship is a Divine institution and that we will not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, as long as
God shall give us suitable health and opportunity.

That God hath appointed the Ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper
to be observed by his church to the end of the world.

That adult believers, who have not been baptized, and the children of
professing believers are the proper subjects of baptism.

Finally, we believe that God hath appointed a day in which he will judge
the world, in righteousness by Jesus Christ, who will them receive the
righteous into endless happiness and sentence the wicked to endless misery.
